Get ready for the new Mingle Marathon

For the last five years, the AussiePeaceWalk Marathon has been held on flat and mostly hard surfaces, which is more strenuous than it may sound! Our new marathon route will be very different.

Your Adventure Begins With a Bus Trip

A bus will take all participants to the start point at Kambah Pool, a stunning natural swimming hole on the Murrumbidgee River, where a 500 metre long stretch of tranquil water banks up behind a natural rock bar. This beautiful spot, complete with a sandy beach for swimming, sets the perfect tone for your day ahead.

As you set off along the Murrumbidgee River, you’ll have over five kilometres of trail walking alongside your walking friends. Breathe in the eucalyptus-scented air and keep your eyes peeled for the incredible wildlife that calls this area home. Bring your camera – you never know what you’ll see!

The route leads you to the township of Tuggeranong, where you’ll follow a path around the lake. The gentle path here gives you plenty of opportunities to chat, share stories, and maybe even get some group photos with the lake as your backdrop.

“Whether you’re walking solo for a personal challenge, or coming with friends and hoping to make your circle even bigger, the Mingle Marathon route has been designed with you in mind.“

Your adventure continues through Faddon Pines, where you’ll follow trails frequently used by morning joggers and horse riders. You’ll traverse undulating hills with lovely views between the trees.

Marathon Approaches Tuggeranong

To the Heart of Australian Democracy

As you approach the city, you’ll stroll around Australia’s unique Parliament House built into Capital Hill, then down through native gardens to the World Peace Bell, which marks a special moment in your journey. Walkers pause here to strike the bell and say a few words, such as, ‘Let there be peace between nations’ and take some group photos to capture both their achievement and the friendships formed along the way.

Your Lake Burley Griffin Finale

The final stretch around Lake Burley Griffin’s central basin is on flat, wide, well-maintained paths. If you are visiting from the northern hemisphere, the black swans may look a little strange. To us Aussies, all swans are black!

A fun new Mingle Marathon Experience

As you walk these ancient landscapes, take time to notice the subtle beauty around you – the way light filters through eucalyptus leaves, the intricate patterns of bark on different tree species, the calls of native birds creating a natural soundtrack to your adventure.

Share these discoveries with your walking companions and watch how these shared moments of wonder become the foundation of lasting friendships.
