Checkin 2023

If you are an IML walker, you’ll also be entitled to the relevant bling that goes with walking over 20km on two consecutive days. If you aren’t an IML walker, you can join the IML at the Aussie Peace Walk and continue your walking journey around the world.

More people than ever before are challenging themselves to run a marathon. But, have you considered a Marathon Walk?

Just like running a marathon, walking a marathon is a fantastic way to boost your physical fitness, but with less stress on your body and joints.

Completing a marathon is a significant personal accomplishment. A marathon walk can boost your self-esteem, confidence, and sense of achievement, just as running a marathon can. And when you back it up with a 24km walk the next day, you’ll get all the benefits and a lasting reminder of your capabilities.

Sign up for the MegaMingle, a two-day walking adventure that will test your endurance and reward you with stunning views of Canberra, Australia’s ‘Bush Capital’.

The MegaMingle is an exciting combination of a 42.2km walk on Saturday and a 24km walk on Sunday that will challenge you and lead you on a journey of discovery around Canberra.

In total, you’ll walk 66 picturesque kilometres over the weekend, shoulder to shoulder with participants from around the world.

Other Walk Options:

If you don’t want to take on the MegaMingle 42+24km, you can just enter the Marathon, or you can do the MultiMingle 21 + 24km, which basically splits the marathon into two!

Make the most of your involvement by registering to support one of these great charities.

Essential Tips for Marathon and Walking Event Success

  • Start Slow: If you’re new to marathons, begin with shorter walks to slowly build your endurance.
  • Proper Training: Walk regularly. Join a weekly walking group and get into a routine of doing a walk of 20km or more each week.
  • Nutrition: Fuel your body with a balanced diet to support your training and event performance.
  • Hydration: Stay well-hydrated before, during, and after the event. Dehydration is a health challenge in walking long distances because you will lose moisture slowly and not necessarily feel thirsty like you do if you are running.
  • Proper Gear: Get comfortable walking shoes and moisture-wicking clothing to avoid blisters and discomfort.
  • Rest and Recovery: Ensure you get enough rest and allow your body to recover between walks.
  • Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to any signs of injury or overexertion. It’s essential to seek medical advice if necessary.
  • Event-Day Preparation: Prepare for the event by familiarising yourself with the course, start time, and parking. Arrive at least 30min early to reduce stress on the day.
  • Enjoy the Experience: Embrace the atmosphere and the camaraderie of the event. Remember to have fun and celebrate your achievements.

The MegaMingle isn’t just about challenging yourself and discovering Canberra’s natural beauty; it’s also an opportunity to meet and connect with fellow walkers who share your love for the outdoors.

While covering the kilometres together, you’ll have ample time to chat, make new friends, and strengthen existing bonds. The stunning Canberra landscape serves as the perfect backdrop for building lasting memories.

Randomly chosen participants will also receive spot prizes. All you have to do to be in with a chance is to enter and get involved.

Treasure Your Marathon Pin

All walkers that complete the Marathon will get the Aussie Peace Walk Marathon pin to add to your ribbon, hat or jacket.
