If you are coming to Canberra to take part in the IVV-OceaniaPiad or Aussie Peace Walk, you’ll might be interested in extending your stay in Australia and exploring some excellent walking locations.

On 30 March 2026, we will have a tour to the NSW South Coast and the Alpine region. The tour will depart Canberra the day after the 2026 Aussie Peace Walk.

To experience different environments, we suggest walking in the Blue Mountains, Snowy Mountains, and NSW south coast. There are also some excellent walks around Sydney, and further afield for those planning on venturing north of Sydney.

Sydney
If you don’t have time to venture far from the city, don’t worry, Sydney has plenty of walks to keep you entertained and inspired.
You can explore the iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens, or discover hidden gems, such as the Spit Bridge to Manly walk, the Bondi to Coogee walk and the Barangaroo Reserve walk.
If you’re up for an adventure and want to see Sydney like a local, you could try the 80km multi-day Bondi to Manly walk, connecting the city’s two most famous surf beaches.
You’ll also get to enjoy the vibrant culture, cuisine and nightlife of Australia’s largest city.

Blue Mountains
A little over an hour from Sydney, you’ll find yourself in the Blue Mountains National Park amid a world of rugged cliffs, lush forests, cascading waterfalls and ancient rock formations.
The Blue Mountains offer a range of walks for all levels of fitness and experience, from easy strolls to challenging multi-day hikes.
You can also visit charming towns, cultural sites and wildlife parks along the way.
Grand Cliff Top Walk was recently launched as a multi-day self-guided walk.

Snowy Mountains
If you’re looking for an adventurous walk, two hours south of Canberra are the Snowy Mountains, where you can trek through alpine landscapes, snow-capped peaks and ancient glacial lakes.
The Snowy Mountains are home to Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, which you can walk up on a day trip or as part of a longer circuit.
The Guthega to Charlotte Pass walk, is worth a visit. This is the first section of the new, multi-day Snowies Alpine Walk scheduled for completion late 2024.
You’ll also enjoy the rich history and heritage of the region, as well as the cozy lodges and pubs where you can warm up after a day on the trails.

NSW South Coast
For a coastal walk with a difference, check out the NSW south coast, where you can walk along pristine beaches, past rocky headlands, turquoise waters and abundant wildlife.
The NSW south coast has some of the best coastal walks in Australia, such as the Kiama Coast walk and the Murramarang South Coast Walk.
You’ll also love the quaint villages, fresh seafood and friendly locals that make this area so special
Further Afield
If you are planning to travel north of Sydney, we suggest the Bouddi Coastal Walk on the Central Coast (1 hr north of Sydney) or the Tomaree Coastal Walk at Port Stephens (1.5 hrs north of Sydney).
